Indigenous Peoples' Day

ree

Today is Indigenous Day!

Today, we honor the Coast Miwok people, the original stewards of the land. With deep roots in the rich legacies of California's history, the Coast Miwoks have nurtured and protected this vibrant ecosystem for generations. Native connection to the land is woven into the very fabric of our environment, from the rolling hills to the shimmering coastlines. As we celebrate Indigenous Peoples Day, we acknowledge the resilience and strength of the Coast Miwok community. Despite facing immense challenges through colonization and cultural erasure, have persevered, preserving traditions, language, and sacred practices. The stories echo through time, reminding us of the wisdom that comes from living in harmony with nature. we take this day to reflect on the contributions of the Coast Miwoks, whose knowledge of sustainable living and deep respect for the earth inspire many to be better land caretakers. I stand in solidarity with ongoing efforts to reclaim the heritage and advocate for the rights, recognizing that the Coast Miwok culture enriches our collective identity in Marin. Today, I honor the ancestors who walked this land before us, and I celebrate the vibrant culture that endures. We can learn from teachings and strive to build a future grounded in respect, understanding, and unity. In respect and support, I pay tribute to the Coast Miwok people—not just today, but every day, as we work together to honor the Coast Miwok People of Marin County .
