Cayetana Ynitia

Cayetana Ynitia (Cayetana Guallulu Quilajuque), 1809 to 1850. Wife of Camillo Ynitia. She died shortly after this photograph. She is Maria and Maxima's mother and our gr gr Grandmother. She was referred to as a Maien (leader) Coast Miwok. She came from a long line of Chiefs around the olompli area. She was thrown off of a horse at Olompali and died and Camillo stumbled upon her in the trails up in the hills. (But the family story is she was riding up above Olompali, in the hills on her horse, and she was encountered by "an enemy." Whoever the enemy was, Chief Camillo Ynitia, was a man of power, along with which came great allies and great enemies. The family story is that he found her, off on the side of her horse, dead. That's part of his anger... Yes, he was a powerful and angry man. It was a tough life, it was the transition from traditional Native American, to the more domesticated world! He paid the price. Died at a very young age of 37, I believe.
